World Cup Veysonnaz

19th Mar 2015

A big thanks to FIS Ski and AdamJohnsonPhotography.com for supplying a few great shots - one of which ended up in a great write up.

Now in La Molina, Spain for 3rd World Cup - it's going to be harder as it is only 4 man racing so only 32 out of 60+ qualify. Will give it my best shot. Really loving Spain - people are really great, food and scenery awesome.

Great racing with Stian Sivertzen, Norway 1st (congrats on the reality show win) myself 4th place and Omar Visintin, Italy 2nd Semi Finals 14th March 2015.

SBX World Cups - Switzerland and Spain

25th February 2015

Awesome - it is confirmed, tickets booked - I'm off to my first World Cups of my career, as mentioned Squaw Valley was cancelled due to the lack of snow so plans have changed quite a lot.

First stop is Veysonnaz Switzerland - then La Molina Spain - then back to the Canadian Nationals.
March and the start of April are going to be very busy and exciting.  I haven't been to either of these places before which is always pretty great checking out new spots. Watch this space.  Training has been ramped up - extra hard for the next two weeks - leave 9th March.

Ski Cooper, Colorado SBX Training

Hi - sorry I haven't been online - took a break over the Christmas period - away from the electronics. Hope everyone had an awesome Holiday and now really looking forward to rest of 2015.

Back into training now as we start to come into the competition section of the season. At present we have been helping build the SBX start section at Ski Cooper - they have been amazing - helping us. Now the USA SBX Team have arrived to utilise the facilities and tomorrow a number of other teams are arriving to do speed training on the GS course.

Some shots via ISTC of the course we have been building:-

As you can imagine it is really hard to go hell for leather down a slope (if you aren't in a Ski Race Course - Snowboards seem to rip them up) without getting your passes pulled. So really appreciate the opportunity to take off the breaks.

First European Podium - FIS Races Pitzal Austria

29th/30th Nov 14

Wow, had a couple of great days racing. First day there were 128 male competitors and there are no time trials everyone gets to race and you are ranked based on your FIS points.

I have to mention a little encouragement the coaches were using on me.

Ever since I have been in Austria I have been hanging out for some Apple Strudel and Vanilla Sauce!! Awesome, however those same coaches were watching everything that was going in my mouth. IE some of the team are allowed to eat like horses and some of us are still trying to get our ratios down!!!! No guessing where I came into that!

So here was my targets top 8 - I got Strudel, top 4 (podium) I got to have it with Vanilla Sauce - plus if I won!! Jan (coach) was going to personally make it for me.  Pretty tough going on a Kiwi guy who loves good food.

Race 1 - messed up the final race - thought it was a false start - but it wasn't so it was all on 9TH!
NO strudel.

So Race 2  (80 competitors) - I knew I could do better - even with a broken toe strap at the finish line - 2nd!  YES!! I'm off to eat - Austrian Apple Strudel and Vanilla Sauce - before packing to leave for Colorado tomorrow 4am.

Terrific race and training experience here in Austria - quite a few of the european guys were World Cup competitors last season.

Thanks heaps to Ross, Jan and Eric, and I look forward to coming back to Austria again.

Congrats to the other podium athletes
Jakob Dusek AUT 1st, Tyler Jackson CAN 3rd,  Sebastian Pietrzykowski GER 4th.

Interesting story behind the Trust - http://Brucegrantyouthtrust.org.nz

- reminds you of the risks involved in following your dreams, something which we were all made aware of today during training.

Ha, hit the sack last night after getting back from Wanaka wondering how my mate Scott's - edit had gone in the Through the Lens Competition.

Found out later when he excitedly messaged me to confirm he had won!! Awesome - congrats, great effort, as I know how much time and effort goes into editing even a small piece of video.

So here is the link to watch his winning edit - called "Sminter".
