Really enjoyed showing some overseas friends around our great back yard in the last couple of days. Had a lot of laughs and found some amazing spots.

I have to say my first overnight splitboarding trip - through the Doolans out the back of The Remarkables, Queenstown, was terrific. Magic terrain, first day the weather was outstanding - Sunday was a bit overcast but really enjoyable - learnt heaps and pushed my boundaries in lots of areas.

Always great to feel that you a learning and achieving new things. Here's a couple of shots from the weekend.  Totally love being up in the mountains - revitalising!!

Had a lot of fun visiting a class at St Josephs on Wednesday - lots of great questions asked by the group.

Took them through a virtual SBX race - lots of pumping, tucks and jumps, got a surprise when the teacher from the downstairs classroom came racing in - she thought the ceiling was going to come down on them because of all the awesome racing going on upstairs!!

I was surprised that the crew - thought 'The Dog' was coming in with me - as you can see he was very disappointed to be left at home, maybe next time?

Thanks to teacher Debbie - for the event shots.

21st July 2015

Great day up The Remarkables riding and filming with the Diaries Downunder crew, will be interesting to see what comes of the days shoot.

I don't think people realise how much time goes into making a small video clip. But hey great fun - thanks for the days riding.

Getting some on snow practice in before I leave for Aussie next weekend for some training and competing. I have actually tried to get to these Aussie events for a few years and this will be the first time (fingers crossed) I make it.

Had a great day tramping up Cecil Peak, Dad dropped Si and I plus Dog over behind Hidden Island by boat - then we hiked up to the ledge. Great spot for a lunch stop. Then it was on and up.

Terrific weather, amazing views around the whole district "sick" day.  Enjoy getting out into nature - it really is a spirit lifter.   Awesome way to keep fit.

Half way done Skyline page is a great map of the mountains around Queenstown.

I think dog was looking for the boat!!  Ha!

Yep - still looking for the boat home!

Topo Map of area.

Spot the ledge just below peak and snow - a local band played up there are few years ago.

The year is moving fast, keeping busy, working, gym and running the dog! As you can see it's working!! He was still out to the count when we headed into town to pick up some new bindings.

Running in this district isn't hard to do with this backdrop. Wakatipu district - Awesome.

Looking forward to training back with Ross and Jan at ISTC this coming season.

Had a day to go exploring and thought I'd shoot down to Te Anau for a look around. Often pass through on route to Milford Sound for various fishing trips.

Wow - major development going on - still has a great atmosphere thou, great day.

Have been getting some work experience at the Airport and have just passed my Airside Drivers Licence so now I'm able to drive and work around the planes! Fastest growing airport in the Southern Hemisphere and there is some major expansion work being carried out.

Hitting the gym daily - thanks to Alpine Health and Fitness for their continued support.

Start working with Torpedo7 - end of month so drop in and get set for the season.

Mum's and cameras - but hey great to get home for the weekend, bit tired after 3 hour drive up from coast after a days Diving but Dogs happy - smiles all round.

He doesn't know it yet,  I'll be sending him into a ice covered pond tomorrow - when the crew get together for our annual Duck Shooting BBQ.

Looking at the weather - I definitely think the Ducks will be ok.

Early Snow in New Zealand

13th/14th Apr 15

Arrived back in Queenstown for a couple of days and now I've headed down to the coast to get started on the practical side of my Rescue Dive course. While I was travelling and competing I completed all the E online theory assignments - so it's time to hit the water.

Unfortunately, I was looking forward to a warm beach experience but didn't expect the snow to hit so soon.  Hopefully a sign of an awesome southern snow season.

Here's a shot of Queenstown yesterday and the drive into Dunedin from the coast this morning.

Diving cancelled today, the major southerly, snow & swell put an end to it. Can't say I was too upset. Off to buy a new pair of diving gloves - using the leather cray collecting ones yesterday but started to loose the feeling in my fingers - seriously cold wind chill when you are wet!!

Love where I live - always miss this view - over on the wild side with the Dog.  Exploring, watching, enjoying nature.

Had a fun night over in Wanaka last night at the P2P Graduation Night. Have really enjoyed the course very informative and interesting. Great working with lots of other athletes from different codes.  We all had to do a bit of a speech!!

Thanks to Snowsports NZ for the opportunity and the P2P Team -  Raylene, Carol, Carolyn and Val - great course.

Avalanche Stage 1 Course

Sept 14

Decided that I needed to get a bit more knowledge when it comes to avalanches - really love getting out and about in the mountains. So after a couple of little ones slipped out in front I investigated which course I should be doing.  NZ has avalanches which are very controlled in grounds but anywhere off piste it can get dodgy.

Otago Polytech run a stage 1 & 2 Diploma course which is the most in depth course here in NZ.  So thought the more knowledge you have, possibly the safer I can be.

Really enjoying the challenge of classroom learning (adult style).  The course has attracted people from Australian, Japan and around NZ.

Let you know how I go.

icebreaker - v - Crown Range, Queenstown

Wow, bit of a challenging drive back from a meeting in Wanaka last night, snow falling and we got pulled over to put the chains on the 4WD just past Cardrona about 9.20pm.

All I can say - dam lucky I was wearing two layers of icebreaker as I didn't have any jacket in the car!  as I had't been riding.

Not being that proficient with putting thoses !(*@#$% chains on - it did take a little longer than I had hoped but main "torch holder" was shaking like a leaf in the cold, but hey I was nice and warm!!

Hit the sack 11ish! slow trip watching others trying to navigate the conditions with and without chains!!

icebreaker  // Torpedo7  Thank guys.

Terrific - some fresh snow happening!  You either love it or hate it! Ha.

"The Dog" enjoyed the training exercise run today, crazy fellow.  However, poor Bennie isn't designed for the snow - oh well a bit of weight training!

Looking forward to hitting the powder up on those mountains.

Ha, he's up to NO good again, - I can't help laughing at his antics - but Mum - well what can I say she didn't appreciate the cinderella crack!

The small things in life you have to enjoy when you are home.  By the way he did get the most improved prize at Doggy training College! But I suppose that can be taken 2 ways! Ha.

A+ he was bringing it back!  I think!
